**Moscow, November 10, 2024:** A night of record-breaking drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine coincided with the Kremlin expressing optimism about a potential peace deal brokered by newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
The attacks saw Russia launch 145 drones towards Ukrainian targets, the highest number in a single night since the conflict began. Meanwhile, Ukraine launched 34 drones targeting Moscow, the largest attempted attack on the capital since the war started in 2022.
Despite the ongoing hostilities, Russian officials are cautiously hopeful about Trump’s stated desire to end the conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov highlighted Trump’s emphasis on reaching a deal, his willingness to talk directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his rejection of the Biden administration’s approach of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia.
However, Peskov also cautioned about Trump’s unpredictability and the unknown extent to which he will follow through on campaign promises.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while welcoming the possibility of a peace deal, warned against making concessions to Russia, stating that ceding territory or accepting any of Putin’s demands would only embolden the Kremlin and lead to further aggression.
Trump has not publicly outlined his plans for a peace deal, but Russia has insisted on Ukraine’s withdrawal from significant parts of its eastern and southern territory as a precondition for negotiations.
The situation remains volatile, with Russia making significant territorial gains in recent weeks. Despite the potential for a breakthrough under Trump’s leadership, the conflict’s future remains uncertain.
