KAKINADA: A house surgeon at Rangaraya Medical College (RMC) in Kakinada has been suspended and fined for allegedly engaging in ragging of second-year MBBS students. The incident, which took place on the night of November 8th, involved Jagadeesh, a house surgeon, entering the boys’ hostel in an intoxicated state and hurling abuses at the students for four hours.

According to RMC Principal Dr. Dav Sasi, Jagadeesh was not permitted to be in the hostel but entered in a drunken state and subjected the students to prolonged harassment. Three students later filed a written complaint with the college authorities, leading to the suspension and fine.

“We have suspended Mr. Jagadeesh for one year and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 to be deposited into the account of the College Development Council. The situation is normal on campus,” Dr. Sasi stated.

The Anti-Ragging Committee decided against pursuing legal action against the accused. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of ragging in educational institutions and the need for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences.
