Mon Nov 11 04:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Phillies Promote Preston Mattingly to General Manager, Fuld Takes Business Operations Role

**Philadelphia, PA** – The Philadelphia Phillies have announced a significant shakeup in their front office, promoting Preston Mattingly, son of former star Don Mattingly, to the position of General Manager. The move sees current GM Sam Fuld transition to a business-focused role, taking on the position of President of Business Operations upon graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in May 2026.

Mattingly, 37, has quickly risen through the ranks of baseball operations, joining the Phillies in 2021 after a stint with the San Diego Padres. President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski expressed confidence in Mattingly’s ability to lead the Phillies into the future, stating, “I think he has the ability to be the general manager and the head of baseball operations for years to come.”

Fuld, who has been the GM since 2020, will take on the responsibilities of the business side of the organization, overseeing operations departments after his graduation. This follows the retirement of current President of Business Operations Dave Buck in December.

“I’ve always been interested in the business side of baseball,” Fuld said. “This came out of a conversation I had with Dave and [managing partner John Middleton] in the spring and we talked about the short term, the midterm and the long term implications of this opportunity.”

The Phillies also announced promotions for Luke Murton to Director of Player Development and Edwar Gonzalez to Director of Hitting Development.

The team is optimistic about the future with these new leadership appointments, aiming to build upon their recent success and make a serious run at the World Series.
