Mon Nov 11 02:46:43 UTC 2024: ## India’s Ambitious Plan to Transform Education: Aiming for Global Leadership

**New Delhi, India** – On the occasion of National Education Day, celebrated annually on November 11th in honor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined a bold vision for India’s education system. He emphasized the need to create a high-quality education system within the country, eliminating the need for Indian youth to seek education abroad.

“We want to develop an education system so that the youth of our country don’t need to go abroad. Our middle-class families need not spend lakhs and crores of rupees,” said Prime Minister Modi. “Not only that, we also want to create such institutions that attract people from abroad to come to Bharat instead.”

The government has made significant strides in recent years to expand access to education and enhance its quality. Key initiatives like the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the PM SHRI Schools program, and Samagra Shiksha aim to build an inclusive and equitable educational system, addressing diverse student needs and promoting 21st-century skills.

The NEP 2020, launched under the Prime Minister’s leadership, seeks to overhaul the education system, aligning it with the demands of a rapidly changing world. The PM SHRI Schools program, with a total project cost of ₹27,360 crore, will strengthen over 14,500 schools across the country, showcasing the NEP’s vision.

The government has also implemented several schemes focusing on adult literacy, foundational literacy and numeracy for young children, teacher training, and higher education. The recent AISHE report shows encouraging growth in higher education enrollment, with a particular rise in female enrollment and the representation of students from disadvantaged groups.

The substantial budget allocations for education in FY 2024-25 highlight the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the sector. The Department of School Education & Literacy received a record ₹73,498 crore, while the Department of Higher Education received Rs. 47,619.77 crore. These investments underscore the government’s vision for India’s education system to become a global leader.

As India celebrates National Education Day, the government’s ambitious plan for education reform offers a beacon of hope for the future. With a focus on quality, inclusivity, and a forward-thinking approach, India is poised to create a brighter, more empowered future for its youth and for its place in the global community.
