**Udaipur, Rajasthan:** Mahendra Singh Mewar, a member of the esteemed Mewar royal family and former BJP MP, passed away at a private hospital in Udaipur on Sunday. He was 83.

Mewar, a descendant of the legendary 16th-century Rajput king Maharana Pratap, had been receiving treatment at the hospital for several days before his demise.

He served as the MP for Chittorgarh from 1989 to 1991, representing the BJP. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to preserving and promoting Rajasthan’s rich heritage.

Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his condolences on X. “I am deeply saddened by the demise of former Chittorgarh MP and member of the erstwhile Mewar royal family Mahendra Singh Mewar ji, who made an invaluable contribution to social and political life,” the Prime Minister stated. He praised Mewar’s commitment to serving the people and his dedication to social welfare.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also expressed his grief, calling the demise “sad, painful, and an irreparable loss for the region and the state.” He added that Mewar’s contributions to society would forever be remembered.

Mewar’s son, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, is the BJP MLA from Nathdwara constituency, while his daughter-in-law, Mahima Kumari, represents Rajsamand as a BJP MP.
