**Hanamkonda, November 10, 2024:** BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has accused the Congress government led by A. Revanth Reddy of reneging on promises made to the Backward Classes (BCs) in the Kamareddy Declaration a year ago.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Mr. Rao claimed that the government has discontinued existing schemes introduced by the previous BRS government for BCs, including Rythu Bandhu, Dalit Bandhu, and BC Bandhu, without implementing any new initiatives. He criticized the Congress for betraying the BC community, just as it has allegedly done with other sections of society.
Mr. Rao demanded that the government conduct elections to local bodies only after the completion of the caste survey, which would enable the implementation of the promised 42% reservation for BCs. He also suggested simplifying the ongoing caste census questionnaire and implementing the BC quota as done in Tamil Nadu.
The BRS leader questioned the government’s commitment to its promises, such as establishing a residential school for BCs in every mandal, a BC residential degree college in every district headquarters, providing ₹10 lakh interest-free loans to BCs, and allocating ₹20,000 crore annually for BC welfare. He highlighted the paltry allocation of just ₹8,000 crore for BCs in the 2024-25 budget.
