Mon Nov 11 08:44:08 UTC 2024: ## Buttler Relieved as Captain, McCullum’s Arrival a “Reinvigorating” Force
**BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS** – England T20 captain Jos Buttler has revealed that he feared he could be sacked following England’s disappointing performance at the recent T20 World Cup. However, the arrival of Brendon McCullum as the new white-ball head coach has given Buttler renewed purpose and he is now excited about the future.
Buttler, who had been out for four months due to a recurring calf injury, admitted that the possibility of losing his captaincy was a real concern after England’s early exit from the World Cup. “I thought it was a possibility, absolutely,” he said. “I’m sure Rob Key did a real in-depth look at everything to do with the white-ball set-up.”
The captain praised the impact of McCullum, whose success with the Test team has led to optimism for the white-ball format as well. “I’m really excited about him taking over,” said Buttler. “You can see the effect he’s had on the Test team… He was always someone I’d have loved to play in a team with and now there’s an amazing opportunity to work with him as a coach.”
Buttler, who has already cemented his place as one of England’s greatest white-ball players, is now determined to extend his career and inspire a new generation of players. “It’s not about you at all, it’s about creating that environment and letting people flourish,” he said, echoing McCullum’s philosophy.
Meanwhile, West Indies have named a strong squad for the first two T20 matches, including the return of key players Akeal Hosein, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, and Andre Russell. The series begins on Saturday in Barbados, before moving to St Lucia for the remaining games.
