**NEW YORK, NY** – While many may associate November 11th with the start of Black Friday sales, it’s important to remember the true significance of the day: Veterans Day.
This annual holiday, originally known as Armistice Day, commemorates the end of World War I and has evolved to honor all U.S. military personnel, past and present.
In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation officially renaming “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” and designating it a federal holiday. This means that most government agencies, schools, and banks will be closed in observance of the day.
Communities across the country will be hosting parades, services, and other events to honor veterans. Many businesses will also be offering special discounts and free food to service members as a gesture of gratitude.
In addition to Veterans Day, there are 10 other federal holidays observed annually.
This Veterans Day, let’s take a moment to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.
