**Balasore, Odisha (November 11, 2024):** Odisha Police have recovered a human skeleton from an abandoned stone quarry in the remote Berhampur area of Balasore district. The discovery was made on Sunday, November 10, by locals who were grazing goats in the nearby forest.
The skeleton was found in a long-abandoned quarry on a hilltop, making the location isolated and difficult to access. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Nilgiri, Saroj Kumar Upadhya, confirmed that a police team was sent to the site this morning to begin investigating the case.
“We are currently unclear about the circumstances surrounding the skeleton’s presence,” said SDPO Upadhya. “It could be a murder, a suicide, or a case of accidental fall into the abandoned quarry while walking in the forest.” Samples from the skeleton will be sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death and provide further clues.
