**LONDON:** Anaya Bangar, daughter of former Indian cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, has become an outspoken advocate for transgender athletes in the world of cricket. The 23-year-old, who transitioned from Aryan Bangar, shared a moving video documenting her 10-month journey on hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Anaya’s powerful video, which has garnered widespread attention, highlights the challenges she faces as a transgender athlete in a sport where she is currently barred from competing at a professional level.

Her frustration stems from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) policy, announced in November 2023, that prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women’s cricket. Anaya, a left-handed batter who has played for various teams, including Hinckley Cricket Club in Leicestershire, expressed her disappointment, stating that the policy feels like a forced expulsion from the sport she loves.

“Growing up, I watched my dad with awe as he represented and coached the country. Cricket became my love, my ambition, and my future. But now, as a trans woman on HRT, I am facing a painful reality,” Anaya shared on social media.

She further emphasized the contradictory nature of the current system, stating, “To compete in women’s sports, I should have transitioned before male puberty. But the system makes it illegal to transition as a minor. What am I supposed to do?”

Anaya’s story has become a symbol of the need for more inclusive policies within sports.
