**Thrissur, November 10, 2024** – The 16th Kerala Veterinary Science Congress concluded today, emphasizing the need for a holistic “One Health” approach to animal welfare and disease prevention. The three-day event, jointly organized by the Indian Veterinary Association and Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), brought together experts from various fields to discuss the theme “One Health Approach to Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases.”

Anil K. S., Vice-Chancellor of KVASU, highlighted the importance of including specialists from public health and environmental sectors in future discussions, alongside animal welfare experts. This interdisciplinary approach is crucial for achieving a “One World” vision, where human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected.

The Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of incorporating traditional knowledge and farming practices in discussions. These perspectives, alongside scientific findings, contribute to a comprehensive understanding of animal health and disease prevention.

The congress featured parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics, including basic veterinary science, livestock health, climate change and its impact on health, wildlife conservation, and poultry and pet animal health. Over 200 papers were presented by experts from across the state and beyond, with nearly 300 participants attending the event.
