Mon Nov 11 17:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Denver Hit with Record-Breaking November Snowstorm, Offers Hope for Drought Relief
**DENVER, Colorado -** Denver experienced its 11th largest snowstorm since records began in 1882, bringing a blanket of white from Tuesday to Saturday. The storm dumped a staggering 20 inches of snow in Denver, with some areas like Limon seeing up to 40 inches. This makes it the third-largest November snowstorm on record for Denver, surpassing the previous record set in 1983 with 21.5 inches.
The snow fell continuously for 75 out of 88 hours, accumulating to a third of Denver International Airport’s average annual snowfall. In some locations, the snowfall was equivalent to half their average winter precipitation.
The storm was also unusual for its high water content. While typically 10 inches of snow translates to 1 inch of rain, this storm produced roughly 3 inches of rain for every 10 inches of snow.
This massive snowfall brings a glimmer of hope for drought relief. With Denver, Greeley, and Fort Collins currently experiencing extreme drought conditions, the upcoming drought monitor is expected to show positive changes in those areas.
Though snow is welcome, officials are reminding residents to exercise caution as icy roads and reduced visibility persist.
