**Chennai, November 10, 2024:** The Avadi Police Commissionerate hosted a public consultation meeting in Poonamallee on Sunday, drawing a large crowd of residents, shop owners, and auto drivers. The meeting provided a platform for the community to voice their concerns and suggestions to Avadi Police Commissioner K. Shankar.
A key issue raised was the persistent traffic congestion at the junction of Kumananchavadi-Mount Poonamallee Road, attributed to a concrete pillar obstructing a portion of the road and autorickshaws encroaching on the entrance of the Karayanchavadi Main Road. Residents highlighted the heavy vehicular traffic on the Karayanchavadi Main Road, a narrow stretch used by many residents traveling to Avadi. Unauthorized parking of autorickshaws on both sides of the road was cited as a significant contributor to daily traffic jams.
Other concerns raised by residents included the need for removal of encroachments on several arterial roads, malfunctioning traffic signals, installation of barricades on crowded stretches of Poonamallee and Kumananchavadi, and action against stray cattle.
Residents further requested the Avadi Police Commissioner to initiate steps towards demolishing and constructing a new building for the Poonamallee Police Station, currently in a dilapidated condition. They also advocated for housing the traffic police and traffic investigation wing under one roof.
The Avadi Police Commissionerate received praise from residents for successfully curbing rowdyism and taking measures to control the prevalence of banned tobacco products in the area.
The public consultation meeting served as a valuable platform for the Avadi Police Commissionerate to engage directly with the community and address their concerns. It underscored the importance of collaboration between the police and residents in fostering a safer and more efficient environment.
