**ZAHARAN (AFP):** Bangladesh made a strong start in the first ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan, scoring 53 runs for the loss of one wicket in their first eight overs.
Tanzid Hasan, who was promoted to open the innings, struck a quickfire 11 runs off 22 deliveries before being dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai. Soumya Sarkar then took charge, showcasing his aggressive intent with a quickfire 20 runs off 20 deliveries, including two boundaries.
The pair put on a 53-run partnership, setting a solid foundation for the Bangladesh innings.
However, Omarzai struck a crucial blow for Afghanistan, trapping Sarkar for 20 runs. The Bangladesh innings then stalled, losing their second wicket for 53 runs.
Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah are now at the crease and will look to build on the momentum built by their opening partners.
