**San Francisco, CA** – San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa has been fined $11,255 by the NFL for displaying a “Make America Great Again” hat during a post-game interview on Sunday.
Following the 49ers’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Bosa interrupted an interview with teammates Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Isaac Guerendo by jogging between Purdy and NBC’s Melissa Stark, pointing to his hat, and then running away.
The NFL’s rulebook prohibits players from displaying personal messages without league approval. Bosa acknowledged the potential for a fine, stating, “I haven’t got one yet, but if it comes, it comes. It was well worth it.” He also expressed his support for former President Trump and his political views.
Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, also showed support for her son’s actions, reposting a video of the incident on Instagram with the caption, “(Cheryl Bosa) you raised your boy right!! #BOSAFORTRUMP.”
The incident highlights Bosa’s long-standing connection to Trump, dating back to before he was drafted by the 49ers in 2019. Bosa has faced criticism in the past for his political views, including past tweets supporting Trump and criticizing former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Bosa has since apologized for his past criticism of Kaepernick, who sparked the movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racism. Trump vocally opposed the protests and called for the NFL to punish the players.
While Bosa deleted his past tweets, his recent actions demonstrate his continued support for Trump and his political stance, even if it comes with a hefty fine.
