Mon Nov 11 12:49:33 UTC 2024: ## Kuki Insurgents Killed in Manipur Encounter, CRPF Soldiers Injured

**Jiribam, Manipur:** At least 11 suspected Kuki insurgents were killed in an intense encounter with security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district today. Several CRPF soldiers sustained injuries during the clash.

The incident began when the suspected Kuki militants launched a coordinated attack from two sides on a police station in Jiribam, which also houses a relief camp for internally displaced persons. The attackers may have targeted the camp as well, sources said.

This is not the first attack on the police station, which has been targeted multiple times in recent months. After the initial attack, the insurgents moved towards a nearby settlement and began setting houses ablaze while engaging in a gunfight with security forces.

The encounter comes amidst heightened tension in Jiribam following a fresh wave of violence last week. A woman from the Hmar tribe was killed and her house was set on fire by suspected Meitei insurgents, leading to allegations of rape and murder. The following day, a Meitei woman was shot dead by suspected Kuki insurgents while working in a paddy field.

Further escalating tensions, suspected Kuki insurgents opened fire from the hills in Imphal East District earlier today, injuring a farmer. This has caused anxiety among farmers as the paddy harvest season is underway.

The CRPF, India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, is actively engaged in the anti-insurgency operation. The force has a history of successfully combating Naxalism in various parts of the country.

The situation in Manipur remains volatile. More details are awaited.
