**Kadapa, November 10, 2024** – Renowned Urdu poet, writer, and social activist Syed Iftekhar Jamal from Kadapa district has been bestowed with the esteemed ‘Yousuf Safi Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Urdu Academy, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Jamal has been a prolific figure in the Urdu literary scene since 1987, with his works gracing prominent publications like Saalar, Siyasat, Etemaad, and Dabistan. He has also been a driving force behind numerous ‘Mushairas’ (poets’ gatherings), including the first State-level ‘Riyasati Urdu Mushaira’ following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Beyond poetry, Mr. Jamal has made significant contributions to theatre and filmmaking. His first play, written in 1995, was adapted into the first Urdu telefilm the following year. He has penned several acclaimed works, including ‘Mohabbat Aur Jung’ (1997), ‘Lagan’ (2002), and ‘Koun Banega Ghar Jamaai’ (2003), and directed notable films such as ‘Khwab Pather Mein’, ‘Padam Shiri’, ‘Dafeena’, and ‘Dood-e-Chiraagh’.
Currently serving as the State secretary of Minority Hakkula Parirakshana Samiti, Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Jamal is a respected voice for social and political causes. The Urdu Academy’s recognition of his multifaceted talents and dedicated contributions highlights his enduring impact on the cultural and social landscape of Andhra Pradesh.
