**Durban, South Africa:** Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned India’s decision to bat Rinku Singh at number six in the first T20I against South Africa, following the young batsman’s underwhelming performance.
Rinku, who was included in the playing XI, struggled to make an impact, scoring only 11 runs off 10 balls. This prompted Chopra to raise concerns about his placement in the batting order.
“Are we doing something wrong with Rinku Singh?” Chopra asked on his YouTube channel. “Whenever he has been promoted in the batting order, he has scored runs. His strike rate is good, and he is a player you want in your team. Why wasn’t he sent in at number four in Durban?”
Chopra further emphasized that Rinku’s talent extends beyond being a finisher. “He is not just a finisher, he knows how to build an innings. He is not Hardik Pandya or Andre Russell, he can time his shots well,” he added.
The first T20I saw a dominant performance from India, with Sanju Samson smashing 107 runs off 50 balls to lead the team to a score of 202/8. South Africa fell short by 61 runs, unable to chase down the target.
While Rinku’s performance in this match has sparked a debate, his talent and potential remain undeniable. It remains to be seen if the Indian team management will reconsider his batting position in the upcoming matches of the four-match series.
