Sun Nov 10 12:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Aussie Duo Purcell and Thompson Aim for Glory at ATP Finals After Historic Season
**Turin, Italy -** Australian doubles partners Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson are set to cap off a stellar 2024 season at the ATP Finals in Turin. The duo, who won four titles this year, including their first Grand Slam at the US Open, are eager to continue their winning streak in the prestigious year-end event.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Wimbledon title after surrendering three match points in the final, the pair have continued to dominate the doubles circuit.
“We just feel like we’re getting better as the year went on,” said Thompson, who also reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 26 this year.
Thompson attributes the pair’s success to their strong singles performances, which have helped elevate their doubles game. “When I’m at the net in doubles, I feel like my volleys are getting better in singles. And when I’m returning in doubles, you know, I’ve got to return to a target. So it just helps the singles returns,” he explained.
Purcell, who is also a singles competitor, emphasizes the value of their combined skills in both disciplines. “The fact that we’ve got more tools than a lot of the teams can only help us,” he said.
The Australian duo, seeded No. 5, will begin their ATP Finals campaign against No. 3 seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic on Sunday. They are also drawn in the same group as Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, whom they faced in the Wimbledon final.
Despite Purcell undergoing ankle surgery after the US Open, he is confident in their chances for another successful season. “I’m feeling definitely better than I did at the US Open and we still got the win there. So I feel we can only be better than that,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2025, Purcell and Thompson are already committed to their partnership. “We’ve got no plans to change,” said Thompson. “I mean, we’re not going to fix what’s not broken.”
The ATP Finals offer the dynamic duo the perfect opportunity to end their triumphant season on a high note and carry that momentum into next year.
