**Chaibasa, Jharkhand:** The West Singhbhum district administration has ensured home voting facilities for numerous elderly voters in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections. This initiative, aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusivity, allows senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities (PwDs) to cast their vote from the comfort of their homes.
The district, which includes five assembly constituencies – Chaibasa, Majhgaon, Jagannathpur, Manoharpur, and Chakradharpur – will vote in the second phase of the election on November 20. Home voting was conducted on November 3, 4, 9, and is ongoing today, November 10.
A total of 15,904 voters, including 3,009 over 85 years old, have opted for home voting. Notably, 101-year-old Bela Sen of Chaibasa and 100-year-old Imamum Bibi of Majhgaon are among the voters utilizing this facility.
West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Kuldeep Chaudhary stated that the Election Commission has provided the home voting option in response to surveys conducted by booth level officials. “We are committed to ensuring that no voter is left out in this largest democratic exercise in the world,” he affirmed.
Mr. Chaudhary personally visited many of these voters with polling materials, emphasizing the importance of every vote. The home voting initiative has been lauded by voters like 85-year-old Suleshwar Pan of Tonto, who found it a convenient and accessible option.
This move ensures that elderly and differently-abled voters can participate fully in the democratic process, regardless of their mobility limitations.
