COLUMBUS, OHIO – Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith continued his record-breaking season on Saturday, surpassing legendary Buckeye Cris Carter’s freshman reception record. Smith snagged his 42nd reception of the year against Purdue, a 16-yard grab through double coverage that nearly converted a first down.

Smith has been shattering records since his arrival in Columbus. He became the earliest-ever freshman to have his black stripe removed during spring practice, followed by being the first freshman named an Iron Buckeye for his strength and conditioning achievements.

The talented wideout previously broke Carter’s freshman receiving yards record, and now sits at 678 yards entering Saturday’s game. He also equaled Carter’s freshman touchdown record with eight touchdowns, catching a touchdown pass in his first seven games – another school record.

Smith’s impressive performance has earned him recognition, being named a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award.
