Sun Nov 10 12:06:19 UTC 2024: ## Israeli Strikes Kill Dozens in Lebanon and Gaza, Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

**DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AFP) -** Israeli airstrikes on Sunday killed dozens of people in both Lebanon and the northern Gaza Strip, escalating the ongoing conflict and further deepening the humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.

In Lebanon, an airstrike targeted the village of Aalmat, north of Beirut, killing at least 20 people and injuring six. The Health Ministry condemned the attack, which occurred far from the areas in southern and eastern Lebanon where the militant Hezbollah group is known to operate.

In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike on a home sheltering displaced people in the Jabaliya refugee camp resulted in the deaths of at least 17 people, including nine women. The Israeli military claimed the site was being used by militants but provided no evidence.

The strikes come amid a major Israeli offensive in Gaza that began on October 6, with the northern third of the territory bearing the brunt of the destruction. The Israeli military has encircled and isolated Jabaliya and nearby towns, allowing only limited humanitarian aid to enter.

The escalating violence has led to the deaths of hundreds in Gaza, with tens of thousands fleeing to Gaza City. Experts warn of an impending famine in northern Gaza, as the Biden administration has issued an ultimatum to Israel to increase humanitarian aid or face potential restrictions on US military funding.

The conflict, which began with Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, has seen Israel retaliate with airstrikes and ground invasions, resulting in widespread destruction and displacement of Gaza’s population.

The situation is further complicated by the involvement of Hezbollah in Lebanon, which has retaliated against Israeli strikes with rocket fire and drone attacks. The escalating war between Israel and Hezbollah has led to over 3,000 deaths in Lebanon and over 70 deaths in Israel.

Cease-fire talks mediated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt have repeatedly stalled, with Qatar suspending its efforts due to a lack of commitment from the parties involved.

The conflict continues to worsen the humanitarian situation in Gaza, leaving hundreds of thousands displaced and struggling to survive with limited access to food, water, and essential services.
