Sun Nov 10 15:59:32 UTC 2024: ## India’s Absence Casts Shadow Over 2025 Champions Trophy

**LAHORE, PAKISTAN:** The future of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hangs in the balance as India’s confirmed absence throws the tournament into uncertainty.

According to sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed them that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not be sending their team to Pakistan for the tournament.

The PCB spokesperson confirmed receiving an email from the ICC stating the BCCI’s decision, citing security concerns as the primary reason. The email has been forwarded to the Pakistani government for guidance.

While the official schedule for the tournament remains under discussion, the PCB has emphasized that a final decision on its implementation will be made in consultation with the host nation and participating teams.

The news follows former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif’s warning that Pakistan could withdraw from the tournament if India refused to participate. Latif argued that while bilateral series are a matter of choice, ICC events require participation, particularly after signing agreements.

The potential absence of India, a major cricketing powerhouse, raises concerns about the tournament’s overall appeal and legitimacy. The tournament, scheduled to be held across Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, was expected to attract a large audience and generate significant revenue.

The situation mirrors the controversy surrounding the 2023 Asia Cup, which ultimately took place in a hybrid model with India’s matches being held in Sri Lanka. This persistent tension between India and Pakistan over hosting rights has become a recurring theme in the cricketing world, jeopardizing the spirit of international competition.

The PCB is currently seeking guidance from the Pakistani government regarding the next steps and a final decision on the tournament’s fate is expected soon.
