Sun Nov 10 14:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Young Proteas All-Rounder Andile Simelane Earns Spot in India Series, Leaving Senior Players Behind

Durban, South Africa – 21-year-old all-rounder Andile Simelane has been selected for the South African squad facing India in a four-match T20I series starting this week. This comes as a surprise to many as senior players Andile Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder were left out.

Simelane, who previously played alongside Dewald Brevis in the South Africa under-19 team, has impressed with his performances for the Dolphins. He displays promising pace and control with the ball, as well as a strong ability to hit big sixes and maintain a high strike rate with the bat.

The young player received a call from Proteas limited-overs coach Rob Walter two months ago, informing him of his inclusion in the squads for the One Day International and T20I series against Afghanistan and Ireland.

“I was at home when he called,” Simelane told SportsBoom.com, “I was surprised and didn’t know how to express my feelings because I was alone at home at the time.”

Simelane’s inclusion in the India series marks his second international call-up, highlighting Walter’s faith in his potential. The coach’s decision to leave out experienced players like Phehlukwayo and Mulder shows his commitment to giving Simelane the opportunity to develop his skills.

“This gives me motivation,” Simelane said. “I was with Wiaan and Phehlukwayo in the United Arab Emirates. Also, I grew up watching Andile Phehlukwayo at Kingsmead and when he was with us at the Dolphins I did work with him a lot. So, it gives me that motivation (that I’m among the best all-rounders in the country).”

Simelane could potentially make his international debut at his home ground, Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, on Friday when the first T20I against India takes place.
