**MUMBAI, INDIA -** In a fiery press conference held in Mumbai on Saturday, Congress leaders from three states took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent “Ek hai to safe hain” [We are safe, if we are together] statement, accusing him of hypocrisy and highlighting their own achievements in governance.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy came together to respond to allegations made by Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the Congress has failed to fulfill its poll promises. The leaders asserted that Congress-ruled states have successfully implemented schemes and projects promised during elections.
Sukhu specifically challenged Modi’s “unity” message, arguing that “It is our differences that bind us together” and that Modi’s statement reveals his lack of belief in India’s diversity. The leaders also condemned the BJP’s alleged attempts to destabilize Congress-ruled states through tactics like “Operation Lotus”.
Shivakumar highlighted the Karnataka government’s success in implementing its promises and invited leaders from the ruling alliance in Maharashtra to visit the state and witness the benefits for themselves. He also criticized the BJP’s alleged use of money to topple governments, calling it a violation of democratic principles.
Reddy accused Modi of spreading lies about the Congress’ performance and pointed to his government’s achievements in Telangana, including the creation of 50,000 jobs in 10 months. He also criticized the BJP’s alleged shift of investment projects from Maharashtra to Gujarat.
The press conference served as a platform for Congress leaders to showcase their achievements and counter the BJP’s narrative ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections. Their strong stance against Modi’s “unity” remark and the allegations of non-performance further intensifies the political battle in the state.
