**Nanded, Maharashtra, November 9, 2024:** In a fiery speech during a campaign rally for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of deliberately dividing Other Backward Class (OBC) communities to weaken their power and prevent an OBC Prime Minister. Addressing a massive crowd in Nanded, Mr. Modi claimed that the Congress had a history of undermining OBCs, citing incidents of instigating conflicts between different OBC groups in Nanded. He further alleged that the Congress cannot tolerate a Prime Minister from the OBC community.
Mr. Modi also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his “empty red book” showcasing the Constitution, calling it a ploy to undermine Ambedkar’s Constitution and create their own version. He further condemned the Congress-Uddhav Thackeray Shiv Sena (UBT) alliance, labeling them as “running the agenda of Pakistan in India.”
The Prime Minister’s presence in Nanded, a stronghold of former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, was seen as a crucial boost to the BJP’s campaign, particularly as a by-election for the Lok Sabha seat is also underway. His speech, which emphasized the names of local deities, resonated with some attendees, who expressed a change of mind from the previous Lok Sabha election. However, Mr. Modi’s attempt to blame the Congress for farmers’ woes was met with a mixed response, with some questioning his claims.
The BJP aims to improve its performance in the upcoming Assembly elections after a disappointing showing in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Mr. Modi’s aggressive campaign strategy is expected to continue in the coming days.
