**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh:** Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated a groundbreaking seaplane demo flight on Saturday, marking a significant step towards integrating water-based aviation into the state’s infrastructure. The flight took off from Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada and landed at Srisailam in Nandyal district.
Speaking at the launch, CM Naidu emphasized the innovative nature of the project, stating, “This is a new experiment. I am very happy. If anything new happens in the country, it should happen in Amaravati.” He highlighted the economic potential of seaplane services, asserting they will generate employment and promote various economic activities.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in promoting seaplane operations in Andhra Pradesh. He stressed that these services require less expensive infrastructure compared to traditional airports, making them a cost-effective option for the state.
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu echoed the sentiment, stating that seaplane operations will not only transform Andhra Pradesh but also India’s future. He acknowledged the previous attempts at implementing seaplane services in the country, which faced setbacks due to the Covid pandemic and other reasons. He credited CM Naidu for recognizing the potential of this mode of transport and pushing for its implementation.
The launch of the demo flight signifies Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to become a leader in India’s water-based aviation sector. With this new initiative, the state aims to leverage its vast water bodies to enhance connectivity, boost economic activity, and provide innovative solutions for development.
