Sun Nov 10 12:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Bay Bridge Closed for Annual Run, Thousands Expected to Participate
The Bay Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic this Sunday morning as thousands of runners and walkers participate in the annual Bay Bridge Run. The 10K race, which starts at 7am, will see participants cross the eastbound span of the bridge from Anne Arundel County to Kent Island.
To accommodate the event, the eastbound span will be closed from 12:00am to 2:00pm, with the westbound span handling both directions of traffic. Runners will be released in waves of 2,000 every 15 minutes, with the last wave departing at 8:45am.
The race, which is weather-dependent, will be canceled if conditions prevent the MDTA from operating two-way traffic on the bridge.
A post-race party will be held at the Chesapeake Bay Business Park in Stevensville and is open to the public. The event, which will feature food, music, and activities, is expected to wrap up around 2:00pm.
Motorists are advised to plan for delays and increased police presence in the area.
**Traffic Changes:**
* Southbound Route 8 will be open from Main Street to Thompson Creek Road.
* The exit to westbound Route 50/Bay Bridge on the Route 8 overpass will remain closed.
* Drivers wishing to access Route 50 WB/Bay Bridge from the Route 8 overpass should turn onto Main Street and then access Route 50 from Duke Street.
