**Brampton, Ontario** – Canadian MP Chandra Arya has denounced politicians who are attempting to portray the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton as a conflict between Hindus and Sikhs. Arya, a member of Parliament from Nepean, Ontario, has asserted that the true division lies between the Hindu and Sikh communities, who stand united against Khalistani extremists, and the Khalistani movement itself.
The incident occurred on November 3rd when protesters carrying Khalistani flags disrupted an event at the Hindu Sabha temple, co-organized by the temple authorities and the Indian Consulate. Arya has accused politicians of deliberately avoiding naming Khalistanis as the perpetrators and shifting the blame elsewhere, thus misleading Canadians into believing this was an issue between Hindus and Sikhs.
“Politicians are portraying Hindus and Sikhs as opposing sides regarding the attack on the temple by Khalistani extremists. This picture is simply not true,” Arya stated in a video statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The two sides are actually Hindu-Canadians and the vast majority of Sikh-Canadians on one side, and Khalistanis on the other.”
Arya emphasized the strong bonds between the Hindu and Sikh communities in Canada, highlighting the common practice of Hindus visiting Sikh Gurudwaras and Sikhs visiting Hindu temples. He appealed for unity, urging both communities to prove the politicians wrong and not allow vested interests to divide them for political gain.
The attack on the temple has further strained relations between India and Canada, which have already been tense since last year following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of Indian government involvement in the killing of Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has strongly denied these allegations and expelled several Canadian diplomats in retaliation.
Arya also cited the views of former British Columbia Premier Ujjal Dosanjh, who has stated that a silent majority of Sikhs in Canada oppose Khalistan and fear speaking out due to violence. Dosanjh also acknowledged that Khalistani supporters control many Gurudwaras in Canada.
In response to the recent events, Prime Minister Trudeau acknowledged the presence of Khalistan supporters in Canada but stressed that they do not represent the Sikh community as a whole. He also made a similar statement about Hindu Canadians and supporters of Prime Minister Modi’s government.
Despite Trudeau’s comments, Arya urged Hindu and Sikh communities to educate Canadians about their unity against Khalistani extremism and to refuse platforms for politicians who do not explicitly condemn it. He also called for the community leaders to deny platforms to politicians who do not publicly recognize and condemn Khalistani extremism.
