Sat Nov 09 16:32:50 UTC 2024: ## TIRUCHI Faculty Members Stage Protest Over Unfulfilled Promises at Anna University

**TIRUCHI, November 9, 2024** – A group of faculty members from the University College of Engineering-Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (UCE-BIT), Anna University, Tiruchi campus, staged a protest on Saturday evening to highlight unresolved issues regarding staff absorption and the implementation of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) benefits.

The protest, organized by the Tamil Nadu Anna University Teachers’ Association (TNAUTA), follows a similar demonstration in October. The demonstration is scheduled to continue into the night.

TNAUTA President R. Prabakaran and Secretary R. Udhayakumar led the protest, demanding immediate action to absorb 20 faculty members who continue to serve without basic benefits. The faculty members are protesting the university’s alleged disregard for a High Court of Madras directive and a 2015 Government Order mandating their absorption.

“Despite court orders and official recommendations, the university has remained unresponsive. Attempts to seek clarification from the Registrar have been met with silence, fueling faculty frustration over the lack of transparency,” said an official TNAUTA statement.

The association also condemned the delay in CAS benefits for faculty members in constituent colleges. “While Anna University’s main campuses implement promotions promptly, faculty in constituent colleges face significant delays. Despite CAS applications submitted in 2017, 2018, and 2023, many faculty members are still awaiting updates on their promotions,” said the body.

TNAUTA further pointed out that although a Syndicate meeting on July 29, 2024, approved some promotions, it only included Assistant Professors advancing to limited grades, leaving numerous cases unaddressed.

The association asserted that faculty members from constituent colleges deserve fair treatment, equal to that of their counterparts on main campuses.
