**Chennai, November 9, 2024:** A 46-year-old woman, Thirilokasundari, was arrested on Saturday by the MGR Nagar police for allegedly attempting to strangle her 70-year-old mother, Adhilakshmi, in a dispute over inheritance.
According to police, Thirilokasundari had been harassing her mother over the inheritance for some time. Despite previous complaints filed by Ms. Adhilakshmi, the police had only issued a warning to Thirilokasundari.
On Wednesday, Ms. Adhilakshmi was sitting on the roadside when Thirilokasundari and an associate approached her and attempted to strangle her with a rope. Passersby intervened and rescued the elderly woman, causing the assailants to flee the scene. Ms. Adhilakshmi was admitted to a nearby government hospital.
A video of the assault, which went viral, led to the arrest of Thirilokasundari. She was remanded in judicial custody.
