The Indian team, batting first after losing the toss, posted a formidable total of 202/8, thanks to a blistering century by Sanju Samson. The wicket-keeper batsman smashed 107 runs off just 50 balls, studded with 10 sixes and 7 fours.
South Africa, needing 203 to win, found themselves in a precarious position early on, losing their captain Aiden Markram for just 8 runs in the first over.
