Fri Nov 08 15:38:24 UTC 2024: ## Madurai’s E2E2 Road: A Bottleneck for Drivers Amidst Flyover Construction
**Madurai, November 8, 2024:** Traffic woes continue to plague Madurai as the E2E2 road, designated as a diversion route for vehicles during the construction of a flyover on Alagarkoil Road, proves inadequate and unsafe.
Initially planned for six months, the diversion has stretched on for over four months, causing frustration for motorists. The E2E2 road, already narrow, is overwhelmed by the influx of vehicles, leading to significant congestion at Palam Station Road junction. Further compounding the issue, the road was not properly strengthened before being designated as a bus route, making it unsuitable for the heavy traffic.
The poor condition of the road, punctuated by deep potholes and vulnerable manholes, has worsened with recent rains. Drivers are facing difficulties navigating the E2E2 road, especially for vehicles with smaller wheels.
City Traffic Police have acknowledged the inadequacies of the E2E2 road and are advising motorists to utilize an alternate, albeit longer, route through Goripalayam junction, Tiruvalluvar statue junction, and Gandhi Museum to reach Alagarkoil Road and New Natham Road.
However, the situation is expected to worsen with more rains forecast. The police have urged the Highways Department to prioritize the completion of the flyover construction and expedite the strengthening of the E2E2 Road to alleviate the traffic burden on Madurai’s residents.
