**Lucknow, India:** Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed students at the CMS Business School on Saturday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to innovation and support for young entrepreneurs. She highlighted various initiatives aimed at empowering young people, particularly those between 21 and 24 years old, including the “1 crore internships” scheme targeting “unemployable youth.”
Sitharaman dismissed the concept of patriarchy as a “fantastic jargon” invented by the Left, arguing that women can achieve their goals if they speak up and stand their ground. While acknowledging that women may require more support, she pointed to Indira Gandhi’s success as Prime Minister as evidence that patriarchy doesn’t necessarily hinder women’s achievements.
Regarding innovation, she emphasized the Modi government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for startups and entrepreneurs. She cited the “Fund of Funds” initiative, which has infused Rs 10,000 crore into the Small Industries Development Bank of India to support small businesses and innovative ideas. Additionally, the government is actively promoting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by prioritizing them in government procurements.
She highlighted the success of digital banking transformation in India, particularly the Jan Dhan Yojana, which has facilitated access to digital banking for the common people. This, she said, was made possible by government-funded digital networks, unlike other countries where private players charged for access.
Sitharaman also urged the students to help promote the “1 crore internships” scheme, ensuring that the target audience is engaged and benefits from the program.
Overall, the Finance Minister’s address highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth empowerment through various initiatives.
