**New Delhi, India** – Maruti Suzuki’s latest iteration of the popular Dzire compact sedan has achieved a significant milestone in safety, earning a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection in the Global NCAP crash test. This achievement marks a significant improvement over the previous generation Dzire, which only received a 2-star rating.
The new Dzire, which was voluntarily submitted for testing by Maruti Suzuki, showcased its enhanced safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 3-point seat belts with reminders for all seats, ISOFIX mounts for the rear outboard seats, and seat belt pretensioner and load limiters at the front. The vehicle also complied with UN 127 pedestrian protection norms.
In the adult occupant protection (AOP) test, the Dzire scored an impressive 31.24 points out of 34, demonstrating good protection for the driver and passenger’s head and neck. However, the protection offered to the driver’s chest was rated as marginal, while the front passenger’s chest protection was deemed adequate. The car also received good scores for knee protection for both the driver and passenger.
Furthermore, the Dzire’s bodyshell and footwell area were rated as stable, indicating their ability to withstand further loadings. The vehicle also performed well in side impact tests, showcasing good protection for head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
In the child occupant protection (COP) test, the Dzire received a 4-star rating, scoring 39.20 points out of 42. The car’s ISOFIX anchorages provided full protection for both a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old child during the crash test, successfully preventing excessive forward movement and head exposure.
David Ward, executive president of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised the Dzire’s 5-star rating, calling it a “significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki”. He expressed optimism that Maruti will continue to prioritize safety and achieve this high level of performance across its entire model range.
Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to safety is a welcome development for the Indian automotive market, where safety has become an increasing concern for consumers. The Dzire’s impressive performance in the Global NCAP crash test serves as a positive example for other manufacturers to follow, ultimately leading to safer vehicles for Indian drivers and passengers.
