**Niagara Falls, NY** – A tragic incident occurred on Monday night when a mother and her two children intentionally went over Niagara Falls, according to New York State Police. The victims were identified as 33-year-old Chianti Means, her 9-year-old son Roman Rossman, and 5-month-old daughter Mecca Means.
Passersby alerted authorities after witnessing the family crossing a safety guard rail at Luna Island, located between the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, and going over the falls. Despite extensive search and rescue efforts, the family was not recovered.
“This incident was intentional in nature,” stated New York State Police in a press release on Wednesday. While the investigation is ongoing, police confirmed that the family’s involvement in the investigation has helped determine the intentional nature of the act.
New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan emphasized the significant security measures in place at Luna Falls, making it clear that the family’s actions were deliberate. “It’s not something where they just stumbled in,” he said.
The investigation aims to uncover the motivations behind this tragedy. “Based on the information we have, we do know it was an intentional act, but the reason why is tougher to answer,” O’Callaghan admitted.
