Sat Nov 09 15:19:18 UTC 2024: ## Litter Problem Persists in Bengaluru’s Green Lungs Despite Vendor Claims of Responsibility

**Bengaluru, November 09, 2024:** Despite efforts by vendors and authorities, littering continues to plague Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Cubbon Park, Bengaluru’s iconic green spaces. While vendors claim to use biodegradable materials and encourage waste disposal in bins, visitors often leave behind food wrappers, plastic bottles, and other debris.

According to the Lalbagh Walkers Association, litter accumulates before the daily cleaning starts at 9:30 a.m., with leftover food and drink containers being the primary culprits.

Shanthamma, a long-time vendor at Lalbagh, points out that while foreign visitors are more likely to use bins, local residents often litter. Similar complaints arise from the Cubbon Park Conservation Committee, highlighting the issue of food waste and discarded diapers left by visitors.

The Horticulture Department, however, denies the severity of the problem, claiming regular cleaning and vendor restrictions to specific areas. However, vendors themselves contradict this, stating that newer vendors are present beyond designated zones.

Visitors, meanwhile, express concerns about the lack of organized vending areas in Lalbagh, suggesting that a designated zone could help contain businesses and potentially reduce littering. Vendors, too, advocate for a more structured system for security and better management.

While authorities insist on the effectiveness of their cleaning efforts, the persisting litter problem underscores the need for greater awareness among visitors and a more proactive approach to waste management in these beloved green spaces.
