**New Delhi, November 9, 2024:** Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar today cautioned against the growing trend of demonizing constitutional institutions and sermonizing the public, calling it a recipe for chaos. Addressing the 4th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Technology Delhi, Mr. Dhankhar said that even those in positions of political power are engaging in this practice.
“It’s time to bid adieu to this trend,” he stated, adding, “It’s time for our elites to be elites. To them, I appeal – to be a worthy elite, you have to be spurred by the fervour of nationalism.”
While not naming names, Mr. Dhankhar’s remarks were widely seen as a criticism of the current political climate. He also emphasized the critical role of alumni in strengthening educational institutions, urging them to contribute to alumni associations and establish funding mechanisms.
“Alumni are the lifeline of an institution,” he said. “Some of the best institutions globally have flourished because they are fueled by alumni energy.” Mr. Dhankhar further encouraged associations in trade, industry, business, and commerce to support research and innovation through financial contributions.
