Fri Nov 08 19:37:34 UTC 2024: ## Congress Launches ‘Delhi Nyay Yatra’ Ahead of Assembly Elections

**New Delhi, November 9, 2024:** The Congress party has launched a month-long “Delhi Nyay Yatra” across the national capital’s 70 constituencies, aiming to connect with voters ahead of the Assembly elections due in February 2025. The padyatra (foot march), which commenced on Friday at Rajghat, will conclude in north Delhi’s Timarpur on December 4th.

The campaign is modeled after the successful Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi last year. Senior party leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Rajya Sabha member Ajay Maken, flagged off the padyatra. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are expected to join the campaign at various points.

Congress city unit chief Devender Yadav stated that the campaign aims to highlight the “unprecedented development works” carried out by the Delhi government under Sheila Dikshit’s tenure from 1998 to 2013. The party also plans to expose the “misrule and corruption” of the AAP government over the past 10 years.

The Congress, which contested the recent Lok Sabha elections in Delhi in alliance with AAP, is aiming to make a comeback in the state after failing to win any seats in the last two Assembly elections. Both parties are contesting the upcoming elections separately.

The launch of the Congress padyatra comes weeks after the AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, began similar campaigns across Delhi.

The BJP has criticized the Congress’s campaign, with party spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stating that Delhi residents are “shocked” to see the Congress leaders speaking against the AAP government’s “corruption and misrule.” He accused Devender Yadav of hypocrisy, pointing out that he previously formed an alliance with the AAP and praised Kejriwal.
