Fri Nov 08 18:44:15 UTC 2024: ## Champions Trophy 2025: India to Play Matches in UAE Amidst Security Concerns
The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is facing a major hurdle, with the Indian government yet to grant permission for the Indian cricket team to tour Pakistan. This has prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to agree to a hybrid model for the tournament, allowing India to play all its matches in the UAE.
According to reports, the UAE venues of Dubai or Sharjah are being considered for India’s matches. The security concerns surrounding a Pakistan tour are the primary reason behind the Indian government’s reluctance.
The PCB has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide written confirmation regarding permission for the Indian team to travel to Pakistan. Meanwhile, the full schedule for the tournament is expected to be released on November 11, with an ICC delegation visiting Lahore from November 10-12 to assess the preparations.
The Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March 2025, will feature eight teams competing in 15 matches, including the final. The tournament will commence on February 19, with the final slated for March 9.
Group A comprises India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B consists of England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. All matches are planned for the Pakistani cities of Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
The hybrid model, allowing India to play their matches in the UAE, attempts to address the ongoing security concerns while still facilitating the participation of all participating teams.
