**Shimla, India** – A political storm has erupted in Himachal Pradesh over an investigation into the alleged mishandling of samosas meant for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. BJP MLA Ashish Sharma, in a pointed criticism of the Congress government, ordered 11 samosas online for the Chief Minister, highlighting the perceived absurdity of the inquiry.
The controversy began on October 21st when samosas and cakes brought for the Chief Minister during an event at the CID headquarters in Shimla were served to his staff instead. Subsequently, CID officials initiated an internal inquiry, prompting a wave of outrage from the BJP.
Sharma, in a Facebook post, expressed his disappointment, arguing that the government should focus on addressing real issues like unemployment and financial crisis rather than investigating “small matters”. He further stated that the BJP MLA from Dharamshala, Sudhir Sharma, accused the Congress government of turning Himachal Pradesh into a laughingstock with this inquiry.
The state BJP, along with the youth wing BJYM, has taken a strong stance against the inquiry, accusing the government of neglecting serious issues like drug abuse and unemployment while pursuing a trivial matter.
However, the Congress has refuted claims of a formal inquiry, stating that it was an internal matter of the CID. The CID Director General, Ranjhan Ojha, clarified that no action was intended and the investigation merely sought a clarification regarding the incident.
The Chief Minister himself attributed the inquiry to misbehaviour by officials, claiming that the BJP is orchestrating a smear campaign against his party.
The “samosa scandal” has injected a new level of political tension into the state, highlighting the stark contrast between the BJP’s focus on the perceived triviality of the inquiry and the Congress government’s defense of an internal investigation.
