Sat Nov 09 05:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Reliance Power Banned from Bidding on Solar Projects for 3 Years

**New Delhi, India:** Reliance Power and its subsidiary, Reliance NU BESS Limited, have been barred from participating in bids issued by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for a period of three years. This follows the discovery of allegedly fraudulent documents submitted by the companies during a tender process for a 1,000 MW/ 2,000 MWh single-based BESS project.

The ban was imposed after an investigation revealed that the bank guarantee submitted by Reliance NU BESS, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, was forged. The guarantee was provided by a foreign bank as per the tender requirements. This discovery forced SECI to cancel the bidding process entirely.

SECI’s statement noted that while Reliance NU BESS fulfilled the financial eligibility criteria for the project, investigations indicated that all commercial and strategic decisions were ultimately guided by the parent company, Reliance Power. This led to the decision to also disqualify Reliance Power from future bids.

The alleged fraudulent activity marks another setback for Reliance Power, headed by Anil Ambani. This follows a recent positive development where Reliance Power’s subsidiary, Rosa Power, became debt-free. However, the company has also faced a five-year ban from the securities market by SEBI in the past.

The incident raises concerns regarding the integrity of bidding processes in India’s renewable energy sector. The stringent action taken by SECI underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in such tenders.
