Fri Nov 08 11:29:42 UTC 2024: ## J&K Assembly Erupts in Chaos Over Article 370 Restoration

**Srinagar:** The Jammu & Kashmir Assembly witnessed heated clashes on Wednesday over the restoration of Article 370, leading to physical altercations and the expulsion of several lawmakers.

The unrest began during the fifth day of the assembly session when two proposals regarding the restoration of Article 370 were tabled. Slogans were exchanged, and lawmakers from opposing parties engaged in pushing and shoving.

Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, brother of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, was escorted out of the assembly by marshals. BJP members, who strongly oppose the restoration of Article 370, were also ejected from the house.

The situation further escalated when a PDP MLA from Kupwara displayed a banner advocating for the return of Article 370, prompting BJP members to raise chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded to the controversy, stating, “What happened on August 5, 2019, is unacceptable to us. It was not done after consulting with us. Some people say we have forgotten that issue. We are not people who betray, the difference is that we know the law. We know how things are brought through the assembly.”

The chaotic scenes reflect the deeply polarized sentiments surrounding Article 370’s revocation in 2019 and highlight the ongoing political tensions in the region.
