Fri Nov 08 09:25:16 UTC 2024: ## Gaikwad Slams Controversial Dismissal in Ranji Trophy, Calls it “Absolutely Pathetic”

**Melbourne, Australia:** India A captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has voiced his outrage over a controversial dismissal in the Ranji Trophy match between Maharashtra and Services, taking to Instagram to question both the umpire’s decision and the opposition’s appeal.

The incident involved Maharashtra’s stand-in captain Ankit Bawne, who was adjudged caught at second slip off spinner Amit Shukla while on 73. However, replays clearly show the ball bouncing before reaching the fielder, prompting Gaikwad to express his disbelief.

“How can this be given out in a live game???” Gaikwad asked in his Instagram story, alongside a slow-motion video of the dismissal. He further criticized the appeal, calling it “Shame to even appeal this for a catch!” and concluding with a scathing “Absolutely pathetic.”

The incident occurred during Maharashtra’s first innings, where Bawne’s dismissal contributed to a collapse, seeing them fall from 137-3 to 185 all-out. The team ultimately succumbed to a 108-run deficit in the first innings.

Gaikwad, who is currently in Australia with the India A team, is having a tough run with the bat in the ongoing series against Australia A. Despite his frustration, the incident highlights the importance of clear and accurate decision-making in the game, especially at the domestic level.

Maharashtra, meanwhile, are currently sitting in fifth place in Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy. Their next encounter is against Services, who are currently placed sixth.
