Thu Nov 07 18:26:40 UTC 2024: ## 16-Year-Old Track Star Quincy Wilson Misses Out On Olympic Finals, Despite Historic Potential

**Paris, France** – Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old track and field athlete who made history as the youngest American male to compete in the Olympic 4x400m relay, was controversially left out of the finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite his impressive performance, Wilson was not chosen for the final relay team.

Wilson, who holds a personal best of 44.20 seconds in the 400m, qualified for the Olympics after a stellar performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. His inclusion on the relay team, even for the preliminary rounds, made him the youngest American male Olympic relay competitor ever.

His coach, Joe Lee, expressed disappointment with Wilson’s exclusion from the final, particularly given the young athlete’s record-breaking potential. “A 16-year-old running 44.20. I’m like, yeah, I know it. And then I said, ‘Wait a minute, I what, think about it, like for his age to do what he did, whatever.’ So that’s why I went to Florida… He doesn’t get chosen,” Lee stated.

Lee went on to say that the team was told Wilson could potentially run in the finals, but ultimately, the decision was made to go with more experienced athletes.

Despite this setback, Wilson’s journey is far from over. His inclusion in the U.S. Olympic team, even for the heats, is a remarkable achievement for a high school athlete. He is poised to continue his track and field career, with college commitments to either the University of California or Texas A&M University.

The controversy surrounding Wilson’s exclusion raises questions about the selection process for the Olympic relay team and the potential for younger, talented athletes to be overlooked in favor of more established runners.
