Thu Nov 07 20:27:49 UTC 2024: ## BJP Slams Opposition for “Supporting Extremism” in J&K Assembly
**Jammu and Kashmir:** In a heated exchange, BJP leader and former MP Smriti Irani today condemned the Opposition’s INDIA bloc for “supporting extremism” following a chaotic session in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly. The session was disrupted by the display of a banner advocating for the restoration of Article 370, which was abrogated in 2019.
The opposition members, led by the National Conference, had passed a resolution demanding the restoration of special status for Jammu and Kashmir and urging the Centre to initiate discussions on the matter. BJP members vehemently opposed the resolution, leading to a shouting match on the floor.
Irani, speaking to reporters after the session, stated that the BJP stands firm on the abrogation of Article 370 and that the INDIA alliance’s efforts to reclaim special status for the region are futile. She also questioned the Opposition’s commitment to the rights of tribal communities in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of “tactical support for extremism and terrorism.”
The BJP leader further condemned the assembly’s actions as a blatant disregard for the rights of marginalized communities, including Dalits and women. She emphasized that the BJP and the citizens of India will not tolerate attempts to undermine the Constitution.
The incident highlights the ongoing political tension surrounding the status of Jammu and Kashmir and the BJP’s unwavering stance against any attempt to restore Article 370. The INDIA bloc, however, remains steadfast in its demand for dialogue on the matter, raising concerns about the future of the region and its special status.
