Fri Nov 08 09:05:43 UTC 2024: ## BJP and Congress Clash Over Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir
**Dhule, Maharashtra:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sharply criticized the Congress and its allies in Jammu and Kashmir for their attempts to reinstate Article 370, the former special status for the region. Speaking at a rally in Dhule, Modi accused the Congress of “conspiring” to create divisions within Kashmir and India.
“As soon as the Congress and their allies got the chance to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, they started with their conspiracies against Kashmir,” said Modi, referring to the recent resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly urging the restoration of Article 370.
The Prime Minister also accused the opposition of trying to obstruct the “Majhi Ladki Bahan Yojana,” a scheme aimed at empowering women. He alleged that the opposition, particularly the Congress, is trying to undermine the empowerment of women and is resorting to “abusive language” against them.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the legislative assembly witnessed heated exchanges over the resolution on Article 370. The resolution, tabled by Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, stressed the importance of the special status and its role in safeguarding the identity and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution triggered a strong reaction from the BJP, with 15 of their members being marshalled out of the Assembly for attempting to protest in the well of the House. Eleven other BJP MLAs subsequently walked out in protest.
The BJP’s National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, slammed the National Conference for bringing the resolution, calling it “illegal and unconstitutional.” He argued that the abrogation of Article 370 by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 2019, followed by Supreme Court approval, had rendered it obsolete.
The controversy over Article 370 is expected to continue, with the Congress and its allies in Jammu and Kashmir vowing to fight for its reinstatement.
