**Panama City, Panama** – A chaotic scene unfolded on a Copa Airlines flight from Brasilia to Panama City on Tuesday morning, as a passenger attempted to open the emergency door mid-flight. According to eyewitness accounts, the man, who was reportedly armed with a plastic knife, rushed to the back of the plane and attempted to take a flight attendant hostage.
“He went past the back emergency door after the warning,” said photojournalist Cristiano Carvalho, who captured the incident on video. “Then he started moving forward and trying to open it.”

“They beat him a lot until he almost lost consciousness,” Carvalho described.

“The crew acted quickly and, with the assistance of some passengers, applied the necessary safety protocols to control the situation until landing in Panama,” the airline stated. “Thanks to the professionalism of the crew, the safety of the flight and passengers was protected.”
