Fri Nov 08 08:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Passengers Beat Unruly Flyer After Attempted Emergency Door Opening on Copa Airlines Flight
**Panama City, Panama** – A chaotic scene unfolded on a Copa Airlines flight from Brasilia to Panama City on Tuesday morning, as a passenger attempted to open the emergency door mid-flight. According to eyewitness accounts, the man, who was reportedly armed with a plastic knife, rushed to the back of the plane and attempted to take a flight attendant hostage.
“He went past the back emergency door after the warning,” said photojournalist Cristiano Carvalho, who captured the incident on video. “Then he started moving forward and trying to open it.”
Passengers swiftly intervened, confronting the man and restraining him after a violent struggle. The man, who was visibly bloodied, was eventually subdued and zip-tied by crew members.
“They beat him a lot until he almost lost consciousness,” Carvalho described.
Upon landing in Panama, authorities boarded the aircraft and took the passenger into custody. Copa Airlines praised both the crew and the passengers for their quick response and bravery in handling the situation.
“The crew acted quickly and, with the assistance of some passengers, applied the necessary safety protocols to control the situation until landing in Panama,” the airline stated. “Thanks to the professionalism of the crew, the safety of the flight and passengers was protected.”
This incident comes just months after another passenger in Australia was arrested for opening an emergency exit on a grounded aircraft. The incident highlights the growing concern over unruly passenger behavior on flights.
