Thu Nov 07 22:08:43 UTC 2024: ## One Direction Star Liam Payne Died from Fall After Drug and Alcohol Use, Argentine Prosecutors Say

Buenos Aires, Argentina – One Direction singer Liam Payne’s death last month was caused by injuries sustained from a fall from his hotel balcony, Argentine prosecutors confirmed Thursday. The investigation revealed that Payne had consumed cocaine, alcohol, and a prescription antidepressant before his death, leading to a state of diminished consciousness.

The toxicology report, shared with Payne’s family, showed traces of polydrug use in his body, spanning the last 72 hours of his life. Three individuals have been charged in connection with his death. One individual, who accompanied Payne daily in Buenos Aires, was charged with supplying him with drugs and abandoning him in a vulnerable state. Two others, including a hotel employee, are accused of supplying Payne with cocaine.

The prosecution ruled out self-harm or third-party intervention as the cause of death. Payne was found dead on October 16th in his room at the CasaSur Hotel, after hotel staff reported a guest experiencing drug and alcohol intoxication and causing damage to the room.

Payne’s death at age 31 sparked global mourning from family, former bandmates, fans, and the music industry. He had achieved solo success after One Direction’s hiatus in 2016, but his career had recently slowed.

The tragic incident has reignited conversations about the mental health challenges faced by young stars who achieve fame at a young age. Payne had previously spoken publicly about his struggles with substance abuse and the pressures of teenage stardom.

Payne’s legacy as a member of One Direction, one of the highest-grossing live acts in the 2010s, remains significant. The band, formed on the popular television show “The X Factor,” enjoyed international fame, selling over 70 million albums and winning numerous awards. Payne is survived by his seven-year-old son, Bear, with singer Cheryl Tweedy.
