**New Delhi, November 8:** Prominent educationist and social activist Dinanath Batra passed away today, leaving behind a legacy spanning decades of dedicated service to education. Born in 1930, Batra was a driving force behind several educational initiatives and organizations, most notably as the national convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan and founder and president of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas.

Batra’s contributions to the field began in 1955 at DAV Vidyalaya Dera Bassi, Punjab, where he started his teaching career. He went on to serve as Principal in Kurukshetra from 1965 to 1990. He was also a key figure in several educational organizations, including the President of All India Hindustan Scouts and Guides and the General Secretary of Vidya Bharati All India Educational Institution.

His commitment to promoting Indian values in education earned him widespread recognition. Batra received the prestigious President’s Award and several other accolades for his dedication to education, including the Swami Krishnananda Saraswati Samman, Swami Akhandananda Saraswati Samman, and the Bhaurao Deoras Samman. His work significantly influenced the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes India-centric educational values.

Batra’s passing has been mourned by many, including Mandsaur BJP MP Sudhir Gupta, who described him as an unforgettable figure in education. His body will be kept at the central office of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas in Narayan Vihar, New Delhi, from 8am to 10am today, for people to pay their respects.
